Hunter (Lurgan) | Members of the Hunter family were leasing lands in county Cavan from the Earl of Farnham in the first half of the 19th century. When the estate of Eliza Nixon of Lurgan Lodge was advertised for sale in 1853 James Hunter and William Shaw were the petitioners. Griffith’s Valuation records James Hunter as the immediate lessor of Lurgan Lodge and four townlands in the parish of Lurgan at the time of the Valuation. In 1876, James Hunter of Lurgan owned 404 acres in county Cavan. |
