Waring (Waringstown)

In the mid-17th century, William Waring, born 1619, settled at Waringstown in county Down. From his second son Thomas descend the Warings of Newry who held land in county Cavan. The Reverend Thomas Waring of Moira, county Down, was Thomas’ third son and ancestor of both the Reverend Charles Waring of Benburb, county Tyrone and George Waring of Newry. In 1876, the Reverend Charles owned 1,448 acres in the parishes of Kilmore and Urney, barony of Upper Loughtee, county Cavan, while George owned 810 acres in the parishes of Bailieborough and Knockbride, barony of Clankee, county Cavan. The Reverend Charles Waring was the rector of the parish of Eglish, county Armagh and the son of the Reverend Lucas Waring. George was the son of James Waring of Newry, High Sheriff of county Cavan in 1842. He married Susan Reid in 1854.
