This family were established in county Meath from the 18th century. George Rotheram married Catherine Smith and had three sons, Edward, Thomas and George S. Griffith’s Valuation records Thomas in possession of two townlands in the parish of Kilbride, county Cavan, while Edward held land in the parishes of Kilbride, Munterconnaught and Drumlumman, county Cavan. Griffith’s Valuation also records Edward and Thomas Rotheram as lessors in the parish of Castletowndevlin, county Westmeath. By the mid-1870s George Smith Rotheram of Blackrock, county Dublin, was the owner of 200 acres in county Westmeath, 1,701 acres in county Meath and 228 acres in county Cavan while his brother Edward of Crossdrum, county Meath owned 1,290 acres in county Cavan and 5,046 acres in county Meath. Their nephew Thomas Edward Rotheram owned 304 acres in county Cavan and 360 acres in county Westmeath.
In 1906, Edward Rotheram held 248 acres of untenanted land and buildings valued at £7.15.0. for rates at Mount Pallas, county Cavan.
