Woodhouse (Kilmacrenan)
|
John O. Woodhouse was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Tullaghobegley and Tullyfern, Barony of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation, in the late 1850s. Currans Obins Woodhouse, resident at Omeath Park, Newry, was the owner of over 1400 acres in County Donegal in the 1870s, as well as estates in Armagh and Louth. Local sources suggest he had purchased lands from the Olpherts estate for use as a sheep farm which brought him into conflict with local interests. Tory Island was part of the Woodhouse estate in the 1850s but was later sold to Benjamin S. Joule of Manchester.
