Young (Inishowen)
|
In the 1870s, Hussey de Burgh records that George Young was the owner of almost 8000 acres in County Donegal. Reverend Gardner Young, of Tydavnet Glebe, County Monaghan, owned over 500 acres. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation, in the 1850s, the Young estate was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clonca, Culdaff and Moville Upper, barony of Inishowen East. This family descends from a Robert Young, who, according to Burke, was ordained a presbyter by Andrew Knox, Bishop of Raphoe in 1632.
