Loughrey (Inishowen)

Anne Loughrey is recorded as the proprietor of over 1000 acres in County Donegal in the 1870s. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation in the 1860s, she was among the principal lessors in the parish of Clonmany, barony of Inishowen East. John Loughrey, whose address is noted as 'Burt' was the owner of over 1800 acres at the same time.
Local sources suggest that the Loughreys were bequeathed the property by the previous owners, the Buchanan family. The surname is rendered as 'Loughery' and 'Loghery' in some sources.
