Harvey (Minitiaghs)
|
In the 1870s the representatives of the late John Harvey, Edward Henry, William Marsh and Reverend Frederick Mortimer, were the owners of over 12,000 acres in County Donegal. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation, John Harvey was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clonca, Clonmany and Donagh, barony of Inishowen East and Minitiaghs (Barr of Inch), barony of Inishowen West, County Donegal. Burke suggests this family name may be descended from a Captain George Harvey, who received a grant of arms in 1602. He also notes the sale of their Minitiaghs estate in 1879. It was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in March of that year. The tenure details indicate that Thomas Harvey, ancestor of the 1879 owners, purchased the estates from the Marquis of Donegall's estate in 1812.
