Ferguson (Inishowen) Sir Robert Ferguson was among the principal lessors in the parish of Culdaff, barony of Inishowen at the time of Griffiths Valuation, in the 1850s. John Ferguson, of London, was recorded as the owner of over 3700 acres in County Donegal in the 1870s. John Ferguson was a proprietor of townlands in the parishes of Donagh and Minitiaghs or Barr of Inch, at the time of Griffiths Valuation. Thomas Ferguson was a proprietor in the parish of Moville Upper at the same time. The Ferguson family were associated with the Burt area since at least the eighteenth century. Documents in the Public Record Office, Northern Ireland show leases they held from the Marquis of Donegall's estate. Sir Robert Ferguson was MP for Derry until his death in 1860 when the baronetcy became extinct.
