Name Description
Sausse This family were located in Carrick on Suir, county Tipperary, at the beginning of the 19th century. They were involved in banking and also had residences at Annsboro, county Kilkenny and at Toulouse in France. Richard Sausse married Jane eldest daughter of John Duffey of Prospect Lodge, Roebuck, county Dublin. One of his sons became Sir Matthew Sausse, the first Roman Catholic to serve as Chief Justice of the High Court, Bombay. On his return from India in 1866 Sir Matthew married the Honourable Charlotte Henrietta third daughter of Lord Lovat. He died in November 1867 aged 58. His brother Sir Richard de la Saussage was a Governor of Carthagena and a General in the Spanish Army. In January 1860 the estate of Richard, Mathew Richard, Susan, Belinda, Catherine, Helen and Fanny Sausse and Anne Orr (nee Sausse) at Carrickbeg, barony of Upperthird, county Waterford, with premises in and near the town of Carrick on Suir and a fee farm rent out of the lands of Annsboro, county Kilkenny were advertised for sale.
