Monsell (Co Tipperary)
|
Thomas Monsell married Harriet Augusta Devaynes, daughter of William Devaynes, banker of Dublin, in May 1791. Their marriage settlement involved her entitlement to £5,000 East India bonds and his fee simple lands of Curraduff and Kilkip, barony of Ikerrin, county Tipperary. These lands were later mortgaged. The mortgage was bought by the Globe Insurance Company and the estates of Richard William Monsell at Kilanoe or Drimeenagh Wood, barony of Lower Ormond and Curraduff and Kilkip East and West, barony of Ikerrin were advertised for sale in the Encumbered Estates' Courts in 1854. The sale was to pay off the mortgage. John Devaynes Monsell and Richard William Monsell were sons of Thomas Monsell. See Irish Chancery Reports Vol 6, page 245. A newspaper report states that Mr Michael Corcoran was the purchaser, see http://www.igp-web.com/tipperary/estates/est_news.htm It is not established that R. Monsell of Slevoir in 1837 is Richard William Monsell.
