McGuire/McGwire (Clonea)
|
Burke states that the Clonea branch of this family is descended from the ancient family of McGuire of county Fermanagh. Rev. Walter McGuire was the principal lessor in the parish of Clonea at the time of Griffith's Valuation. He also held townlands in the parish of Colligan in the same barony. Over 1200 acres in the barony of Decies-without-Drum, owned by Rev. Walter McGuire and other family members, were offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court in November 1854 and June 1856. Parts of their estate in the barony of Imokilly, county Cork were offered for sale in November 1855. In the 1870s, Edward McGuire, of Clonea Castle, was the owner of over 530 acres in county Waterford. Referring to 1775, Sadleir notes that Arthur McGuire purchased estates in Waterford previously owned by Lord Glerawly.
