Estate(s)

Name Description
College of Physicians, King's & Queen's In the 1870s, the College of Physicians of Kildare Street, Dublin, owned over 3000 acres in county Waterford. The College was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Ballylaneen and Rossmire, barony of Decies-without-Drum at the time of Griffith's Valuation. The College's ownership of these estates was based on a bequest from Sir Patrick Dun in the early eighteenth century. The income from the estates was intended to fund the establishment of a medical school. Widdess notes that members of the Power family were agents for the College's estates for many years. Sir Patrick Dun had originally held these estates from the Duke of Ormond. The estates were sold to the Land Commission in the late nineteenth century.
