Esmonde (Ballynastragh) The Esmonde family were established at Ballynastragh, near Gorey, county Wexford, from the mid 17th century. Thomas Esmonde was created a baronet in 1629. The main estates of this family were located in counties Wexford and Wicklow but they also held land in counties Tipperary, Kilkenny, Longford, King's County and Waterford. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Sir Thomas Esmonde held land in the parishes of Grangemockler and Kilvemnon, barony of Slievardagh, county Tipperary. Mrs. Anne Esmonde was among the principal lessors in the parish of Lisnakill, barony of Middlethird, county Waterford at that time. In the 1870s the Esmonde's Munster estate amounted to 717 acres in county Tipperary and 701 acres in county Waterford and James Esmond of Ballinderry, county Tipperary, owned 654 acres in county Limerick.
