McCall

The McCalls descend from Samuel McCall, a merchant located in Glasgow in the early 18th century. In the late 18th century a descendant Samuel McCall married Elizabeth daughter of Hewitt Poole of Mayfield, county Cork and had a son Lieutenant Colonel James McCall of Braehead and Glyntown. Samuel's sister Helen married a Wallis of Drishane Castle, county Cork and Burkes (1886) records his nephew as John Oloff McCall of Ballyhooly, county Cork. In the 1870s the representatives of Colonel James McCall of Ballinglanna owned 75 acres in county Cork while John McCall of Tivoli, Kingstown, owned 1,150 acres in the county. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Samuel McCall/McCaul held land in the parishes of St Annes Shandon and Timoleague and Eliza McCaul held land in the parish of Caherlag.
