Estate(s)

Name Description
Shea Jordan and O'Shea record the history of this merchant family from Cork who moved out of the city to reside at Mount Rivers, Carrigaline, in the early 19th century and then leased Britfieldstown from 1817-1834. The Sheas then resided at Gortigrenane before building their own home at Rennies on land purchased from Philip Samuel Townsend. Luke J. Shea of The Rennies, Kinsale, owned over 1700 acres in county Cork in the 1870s. He was among the principal lessors in the parish of Ballyfoyle, barony of Kinalea, at the time of Griffith's Valuation and also held land in the parish of Carrigtohill, barony of Barrymore. In March 1854 402 acres of his estate at Carrigane, barony of Barrymore, was advertised for sale.
