In the 1870s Mrs Louisa Chesney of Hampton Court Palace, London and Ballyardle, Newry, county Down, owned 2,630 acres in county Cork (rental = £868) and 919 acres in county Down. She was the widow of General Francis Rawdon Chesney (died 1872), a distinguished soldier and Commander of the troops in southern Ireland 1848-1851 (see ''Dictionary of National Biography''. She died in 1902.
