In the 1870s Anne Rice of Marlfield, New Inn, county Tipperary, owned 673 acres in county Tipperary. The Bagwell entry in "Burke's Irish Family Records" refers to the marriage of William Bagwell of Eastgrove and Mary, daughter of C. Spring Rice of Marlhill, county Tipperary in 1881. Helena Bertha Grace Rice (Lena Rice 1866-1907), the only Irish woman to have won the women's single tennis title at Wimbleton, was a member of this family.
