Name Description
Dargan William Dargan was an engineer and entrepreneur of the mid 19th century. He was involved in the construction of railways and canals and was interested in the production of flax. He organised the first Dublin Exhibition in 1853 and donated to the establishment of the National Gallery. In the mid 19th century William Dargan held at least 7 townlands in the parish of Rathcormack, barony of Barrymore, county Cork, from Edmund Burke Roche who was created Baron Fermoy in 1856. It was on this land that he experimented in the production of flax but it was not a success. http://multitext.ucc.ie/d/William_Dargan
