Lucas/Corban Lucas (Rathealy & Ballynacarriga)

The Lucas family were settled at Youghal, county Cork, in the mid 17th century. In 1714 John Lucas, an Alderman of Youghal, married Elizabeth, daughter of Arthur Hyde of Castle Hyde. For three generations the head of the family was named Arthur Hyde Lucas. In 1806 the second Arthur Hyde Lucas married Frances Adams of Cregg, Fermoy and had three sons, Arthur H., John [who married Mary Corban of Kilworth and had a son, Arthur John Lucas] and Henry. John and Arthur Lucas held land in the parish of Dunmahon, barony of Fermoy, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Colonel Arthur Hyde Lucas of Rathealy owned 434 acres in county Cork in the 1870s, while Arthur John Lucas owned 705 acres and the Lucas minors with an address at the Estates Agency Office, Fermoy, owned 491 acres.
