Bernard (Palace Anne)
|
Bennett indicates that the Bernards of Palace Anne were descended from Arthur Bernard, brother of Francis Bernard, ancestor of the Earls of Bandon. The Palace Anne estate passed to the Beamish family in the nineteenth century. Over 3300 acres was offered for sale, on behalf of Arthur Beamish Bernard, in the Encumbered Estates Court, in June and October 1851. Some lots were purchased by James Hunt while the sale of the remainder was adjourned. A further 350 acres in East Carbery barony were offered for sale in July 1852. In March 1858, almost 1000 acres of William Banfield Bernard, insolvent, was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court. He was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Kilmocomoge and Fanlobbus, barony of East Carbery, at the time of Griffith's Valuation.
