The head of this family for five generations was named Garrett. This branch of the Nagle family was established in the Mallow area of county Cork from at least the early 18th century. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Garrett Nagle held land in the parishes of Monanimy and Templeroan, barony of Fermoy. Part of Nagle's mountain, the estate of Garrett Nagle, was advertised for sale in June 1853 and in January 1868 lands in the barony of Fermoy, the estate of Edmund Nagle of Ballynamona Castle, were advertised for sale. In the 1870s the representatives of Garrett Nagle owned 759 acres in the county.
