Decie/Deasy
|
Richard Deasy was among the principal lessors in the parishes of Kilgarriff and Rathbarry, barony of Ibane & Barryroe, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. He was the founder and owner of a well-known brewery in Clonakilty. Henry Edward Decie held townlands in the parish of Fanlobbus, at the same time. Over 3000 acres of the latter's estate was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in June 1860. The sale notice indicates that the property, known as the Phale estate, was conveyed to Decie's ancestor by William Wade in 1783. Henry Edward was the grandson of Richard Deasy. He was born at Douglas, near Cork, in 1832 but later moved to Hertfordshire in England. He is remembered as the skipper of the yacht, America.
