Name Description
Harkness A Scottish family who first settled in county Derry and later moved to county Limerick. William Harkness was a director of the Bank of Ireland and acquired an estate in county Limerick. In 1782 he married Mary Price and they had three sons. The Reverend Robert Harkness of Garryfine and Temple Athea, county Limerick, was a vicar in Somerset, England. All five of his sons were clergymen in the Church of England and this family appear to have been mainly non resident. Griffith's Valuation locates the Harkness county Limerick estate in the parishes of Ardagh and Rathronan, barony of Shanid and Bruree, barony of Connello Lower. In the 1870s William H. Harkness of Cragbeg, Clarina, owned 4,323 acres in county Limerick. In 1901 he married Lucy Emily Kiggell of Cahara, Glin, county Limerick.
