Jago/Jagoe

Estate(s)

Name Description
Jago / Jagoe The Jago[e]s originated in the West Country of England, principally Cornwall and Devon. Family history sources suggest that branches of the family came to Ireland through different maritime occupations from the sixteenth century onwards. Various members of the Jagoe family held lands in Cork in the 1870s. John Abraham Jagoe, of Westfield, Skibbereen, owned over 800 acres. In June 1857, almost 1000 acres held by the O'Connor and Jago estates in the barony of West Carbery were offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates Court. The Freeman's Journal reported that it was bought by the owners.
