Massy (Griston)

In 1822 Charles O'Brien Massy, only son and heir of Frederick Massy of Griston House, county Limerick, married Miss Carey, only daughter and heir of Roger Carey of Kilworth, county Cork. Griston House, 67 acres and some bog acreage were advertised for sale in 1851. The property was held under a lease for ever from the Honourable Nathaniel William Massey, later Baron Clarina, to Frederick Massy. The tenant at the time of sale was Thomas McMahon. The purchasers were George Gubbins, described by the Freeman's Journal as "the head landlord" and also James Corbet.
