Scanlan (Ballyknockane)

In March 1851 the lands of Gortnacrehy, barony of Connello Upper, county Limerick, the estate of Michael Lane Scanlan were advertised for sale. At the time of Griffith's Valuation William Scanlan held an estate in the parishes of Newcastle, barony of Glenquin and Ballingarry, parish of Connello Upper, county Limerick. In the 1870s Michael Scanlan of Ballyknockane, Ballingarry, owned 1,105 acres in county Limerick. Newspapers record the marriage in September 1834 of William Scanlan, barrister at law, of Ballyknockane and Aphra Fisher, widow of James Fisher of Charleville, county Clare and daughter of John Browne of Bridgetown, county Clare and in January 1862 of M. Scanlan and Jane daughter of James Fisher.
