Maunsell (Ballybrood)

John Maunsell of Ballyvoreen, county Limerick, was the third son of Thomas Maunsell of Buckinghamshire. He was a barrister and fought at the Battle of Naseby. In 1667 he was granted 1,952 acres in the barony of Clanwilliam, county Limerick, including Ballyvorneene and Ballybroode. His second son settled at Ballybrood, county Limerick and five generations of his descendants continued to live at Ballybrood until Samuel Maunsell emigrated to New South Wales, Australia, in the mid 19th century. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Samuel Maunsell held the townland of Ballybrood. His estate at Ballybrood and Toneteere and premises in Kilkenny city were first advertised for sale on 2 July 1850.
