Hynes (Bayfield)

The representatives of James Hynes held land in the parish of Carran, barony of Burren, county Clare at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Their residence Bayfield in the parish of Abbey was described by Weir as a "thatched lodge". In the 1870s the representatives of James Mortimer of Bayfield owned 326 acres in county Clare. Michael Mortimer of Bayfield is also recorded as owning 326 acres. Mortimer or Murtough Hynes was employed as an excise man in the county. He had an address in Manchester in the 1870s and owned 30 acres in county Clare. By 1909 Mortimer Hynes had agreed to sell to the Congested Districts' Board 419 acres of tenanted and 495 acres of untenanted land in county Clare.
