Herrane/Herranc
|
Sophia C. Herrane was one of the principal lessors in the parishes of Duagh, Dysert and Kiltomy, barony of Clanmaurice and Killehenny, barony of Iraghticonnor, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Henry B. Harenc was the owner of over 5000 acres in county Kerry in the 1870s. The Ordnance Survey Name Books indicate that Mr. "Harrangue" was the proprietor of townlands in the parish of Duagh in 1840 and that Stephen Edward Collis acted as his agent. The Harencs were a Huguenot family who had an estate at Crays Foot in Kent at the beginning of the nineteenth century. In the 1880s Bateman refers to the late Henry Benjamin Heranc holding an estate of over 5900 acres in county Kerry. [Note the spelling is inconsistent with "Herrane" ,"Haranc" and "Harenc" all appearing in the sources]
