Fitzgerald (Trughanacmy)
|
The estate of Robert M. Fitzgerald, with an address in Dublin, amounted to over 1000 acres in county Kerry in the 1870s. Robert Fitzgerald is recorded among the prinicipal lessors in the parish of Ballincuslane, barony of Trughanacmy, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. In the 1830s, the Ordnance Survey Field Name Books record Robert Fitzgerald as the owner of townlands in Castleisland parish.
In 1859, over 1600 acres, the property of William, Thomas and Frances Fitzgerald was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. The petitioner was Robert David Fitzgerald. The notice indicates the original lease was from the O'Connell estate. In 1861, over 1000 acres of Robert Minnitt Fitzgerald's estate in Trughanacmy was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court. This too was based on a lease from the O'Connell estate, dated 1790.
