Roadstown

Estate(s)

Name Description
O'Connor The lands at Ballinvally or Roadstown were part of the Cooper of Markree estate but were rented on long leases. In the mid 19th century the O'Connor family occupied the property. It had been held by the Fleming family in the late 18th century but was offered for sale after the death of Frances Fleming in 1794. (McDonagh MSS, Sligo County Library). Another property at Castleconor, barony of Tireragh, which may have been associated with this estate, was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in April 1875. It was the property of Michael McTernan O'Connor. The occupier at the time of the sale was Thomas Dorran, who also appears in Griffith's Valuation as a herd at the Ballinvally property. In July 1875 the Irish Times reported that the Castleconor property was sold to John Boyd "of Coolistown Manor" [probably referring to Cottlestown].
