Downing (Kenmare & West Cork)

Francis Downing was one of the principal lessors in the parish of Kenmare at the time of Griffith's Valuation. In 1861 Francis Henry Downing was the petitioner in the Landed Estates Court sale of property belonging to Nathaniel Irvine, in the town of Kenmare.
Francis H. Downing is recorded as the owner of over 1800 acres in county Kerry in the 1870s in addition to over 1600 acres in county Cork. McCarthy Downing, of Prospect House, Skibbereen, owned over 3400 acres in county Cork at the same time.
