This family was one of the principal lessors in the parishes of Knockane and Killorglin, barony of Dunkerron North, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation. In the 1870s The McGillycuddy’s estate amounted to over 15,000 acres in county Kerry. The family were married into many other well-known Kerry families such as the Crosbies and the Blennerhassetts.
