McMahon (Kilfenora) | This family were mainly based in Dublin where they followed legal, military or diplomatic careers. The first baronet, Sir William MacMahon (1776-1837), was Master of the Rolls in Ireland. Sir Beresford Burston MacMahon, 2nd baronet, married Marie Catherine, daughter of Sir Robert Bateson of county Down. The representatives of Sir William MacMahon held an estate mainly in the parishes of Kilfenora, barony of Corcomroe and Oughtmama, barony of Burren, county Clare, in the mid 19th century. In the 1870s Sir William Samuel MacMahon, 3rd baronet, of Fecarry House, Mountfield, Omagh, county Tyrone, owned 4,671 acres in county Clare and 16,326 acres in county Tyrone. His grandfather, the 1st baronet, had provided for the purchase of lands in county Tyrone in his will. |
