At the time of Griffith's Valuation Sir Edward Richard Borough baronet held the townland of Carrick, in the parish of Cam, barony of Athlone, county Roscommon, which he purchased from the sale of the estate of Susan Kelly in July 1853. He was one of the petitioners for the sale. Sir Edward was married to Elizabeth daughter of William St Lawrence, 2nd Earl of Howth and his wife Margaret, daughter of William Burke of Keelogues, county Galway. In the 1870s Sir Edward of Glenaveena, Howth, owned 462 acres in county Roscommon and 61 acres in county Dublin.
