In 1853 Jeremiah Dunne purchased c.500 acres in the barony of Leyny in the Encumbered Estates Court. These lands had been originally part of the Somers estate. He offered these lands for sale again in June 1857. At the time of Griffith's Valuation George Dunne was the lessor of property at Castlegal, barony of Carbury. McTernan notes that this had originally been part of the Cope estate. In the 1870s George Dunne is recorded as the owner of over 2200 acres in county Sligo. Over 2000 acres of land belonging to George Newman Dunn was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in July 1876. The sale notice indicates that this included over 1000 acres in the barony of Carbury, county Sligo as well as lands in counties Cork and Fermanagh. Entries in the Owners of 1 Acre survey in 1876 indicate that he resided at Kinsale, county Cork.
