Estate(s)

Name Description
Reade/Read The Reades were originally a Westmeath family who married into the Featherstonehaugh family. John Cecil Reade's estate in the barony of Loughrea was offered for sale in the Encumbered Estates court in October 1850. It also included lands in counties Galway and Clare and houses in Kilkenny. At the time of Griffith's Valuation, Phillip Read was one of the principal lessors in the parishes of Clonrush and Inishcaltra, barony of Leitrim, county Galway. In the 1870s he owned almost 5000 acres in county Galway. This estate passed to the Hibbert family following the marriage of Robert F. Hibbert and Flora Reade in 1887. Hugh Weir gives details of this family in his book on county Clare houses.
Hibbert The Reade estate at Woodpark, parish of Inishcaltra, passed to the Hibbert family through the marriage of Robert Fiennes Hibbert of Bucknell Manor, Oxfordshire and Flora Reade in 1887. In 1906 Flora Hibbert held over 3000 acres of untenanted land in the parish of Inishcaltra, now located in the barony of Leitrim, county Clare. The mansion house of Woodpark was valued at £69.
Reade/Reid In 1848, William Reid (Reade) was the principal lessor in the parish of Rosduff, barony of Gaultiere, county Waterford. In the 1870s, W..M Reade of Moate was the owner of over 700 acres in county Waterford while Joseph Reade of London owned over 1000 acres in the county. There may be a connection between this family and that of Reade of Woodpark, county Galway.
