Browne (Woodstock)
From the early 18th century a branch of the Galway family of Brownes held a small estate called Woodstock, in the parish of Crossboyne, barony of Clanmorris, county Mayo. Castlemagarret the seat of Lord Oranmore and Browne was nearby. In the 19th century the Brownes of Woodstock mainly resided in Galway city. In 1828 Michael Browne of Woodstock, and formerly a Major in the South Mayo Regiment of Militia, was buried in Galway. In 1826 his eldest son, another Michael, married Harriet McDonagh in St Nicholas' Church, Galway. They had four children. In 1876 Dominick E. Browne of Woodstock held 731 acres in county Mayo and 846 acres in county Galway.
