Gibson/Gibson-Brabazon
The Gibson family were living in the parish of Stonehall, near Mullingar, county Westmeath, at the beginning of the 18th century. James Gibson of Stonehall and Ballinalack married Margaret Kerr of Martinstown, county Westmeath and died in 1822. Their fourth son Thomas of Craddenstown and Grangebeg died in 1861 while their third son Jeremiah continue to reside at Stonehall. Jeremiah's great grandson George Samuel Gibson of Stonehall married Edith Lizette daughter of Joseph Brabazon of Rathcastle, Rathconrath, county Westmeath and their son Joseph Gibson of Mount Dalton assumed the additional name of Brabazon in 1940 when he inherited Mount Dalton from his grand-uncle William Brabazon. In 1876 various members of the Gibson family are recorded as owning land in county Westmeath, James of Craddenstown owned 53 acres, Jeremiah of Stonehall 300 acres, Robert of Allenswood, Lucan, 113 acres and Samuel of Martinstown, 126 acres.
