Douglas (Longford)
In the 1870s Hussey de Burgh notes Henry S. Douglas, of Southampton, as the owner of over 4000 acres in County Longford. He is recorded, along with Mary Anne Mitchell, among the principal lessors in the parishes of Clongesh and Killoe, barony of Longford at the time of Griffiths Valuation in the early 1850s. Devaney states that this estate had formerly been the property of the Mitchells one of whose daughters later married Captain Douglas. This estate was among those which were the focus for agrarian agitation which became known as the Land War in Drumlish.
