Busby (Gigginstown)
At the time of Griffith’s Valuation [publ. 1854] Elizabeth Busby held the townlands of Gigginstown and Richardstown, 563 and 839 acres in the parish of Killulagh, county Westmeath in fee. They had been bought on her behalf and that of Hannah Busby in 1828 by John Busby of Dublin, merchant, from the Dardis family. Hannah Busby died in 1862 and a dispute over her will concerned John and Alphonso Busby, see The Irish Jurist, 15 (1863), 144. By the mid-1870s the estate was the property of Alphonso Busby of Dublin. Alphonso was still in possession of 151 acres at Rickardstown in 1906.
