Dardis (Gigginstown)
Gigginstown, parish of Killulagh, county Westmeath was originally a property belonging to the Dardis family. Garrett Dardis was in possession of Gigginstown and Rickardstown at the beginning of the 18th century. Michael Dardis succeeded his father about 1752 and conformed to the Established Church the same year. His son Christopher succeeded in 1763 and his son Michael in 1781/2. In 1792, Michael married Mary eldest daughter of Henry Byrne of Seatown, county Louth and died circa 1799. His widow married Brabazon O’Connor. Michael and Mary Dardis had two children. Their son Christopher died in 1823 and the estate was sold to John Busby of Dublin, merchant in 1828. He purchased the estate on behalf of Hannah and Eliza Busby of Dublin, spinsters.
