Holmes (Moycashel)
By the beginning of the 18th century this family were settled at Garryduff, barony of Moycashel, county Westmeath. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation [publ. 1854] the Holmes estate was located in the parishes of Ardnurcher, Kilbeggan and Durrow, county Westmeath. The proprietor in the 1870s was Robert William Arbuthnot Holmes who is recorded as owning 1,298 acres in the county.
