Clarke (Meeldrum)
In 1667 Captain Thomas Clarke was granted Killbegg and other lands amounting to over 500 acres in the barony of Moycashel, county Westmeath. In 1798 Thomas Clarke (died 1816) married Catherine Tracy. Their son James Clarke was a Dublin solicitor and at the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) was the immediate lessor of the townland of Cloonymurrikin, 205 acres in the parish of Ardnurcher, county Westmeath, while Mrs James Clarke held the townland of Meeldrum in the parish of Kilbeggan in fee. In the mid-1870s Maria Clarke of Meeldrum, Kilbeggan owned 337 acres in county Westmeath.
