Elrington
A number of members of this Dublin based family were clerics in the Established Church. The Rev John Elrington married Mary Loftus of the Killyan, county Meath family. They both died in the 1790s and were buried in Kilbeggan, county Westmeath. Their second son was Captain John Henry Elrington, Major of the Tower of London (1771-1857). His correspondence with Arthur Wellesly, Duke of Wellington, survives in the National Archives, Kew. He married Sara Reed and had a number of children. He appears to be the John Henry Elrington, an immediate lessor of one townland in the parish of Rathconrath, county Westmeath, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854). In the mid-1870s John H Elrington owned 660 acres in the county. His agent was W Coffey of Adelaide Road, Dublin.
