A map in the National Library of Killarecastle, barony of Rathconrath, county Westmeath, records that it was leased to Robert Matthews by Baron Mount Sandford, 1828 (Ms F21 F.48 (024). At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) Anthony and Robert Matthews each held a townland in the parish of Killare, County Westmeath.
