Kelly (Glencara and Lunestown)
In the early 18th century this Kelly family were settled at Kellybrook, County Westmeath. Hubert Kelly of Kellybrook married Arabella Meares and died in 1810. Their second son Charles purchased Glencara and other lands. He married Katherine, daughter of William Johnston of Headford House, County Leitrim and his wife, Katherine Hume of Lisamoure Castle, County Antrim. At the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854) their son Robert Hume Kelly held an estate in the parishes of Castletownkindalen and Dysart but mainly in the parish of Ballymorin while another son John Hubert Kelly of Lunestown held land in the parish of Conry from William H Magan and also Killare, barony of Rathconrath. In the 1870s Francis Hume Kelly of Glencara owned 2,381 acres in County Westmeath while John Hubert owned 2,596 acres.
