Fetherston Whitney (New Pass)
Ralph Fetherston of Ardagh was created a baronet in 1776. His son, Sir Thomas, married Catherine, daughter of George Boleyn Whitney of New Pass, county Westmeath. Catherine’s sister Elizabeth married William Westby and they became the co-heirs to the New Pass estate. Sir George Fetherston, 6th Baronet, along with Elizabeth Westby, held land in the parish of Rathaspick, County Westmeath, at the time of Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854). Sir George’s uncle eventually inherited the Whitney estate at New Pass and changed the name to Fetherston Whitney. In the 1870s Captain Edward W. Fetherston Whitney, of Newpass, Rathowen, County Westmeath, was the owner of over 2500 acres in that county and just over 100 acres in County Longford.
