Bond (Ardglass)
The Bonds of Ardglass, County Westmeath and Farragh, County Longford, share a common ancestry with the Bonds of Carrownure, County Roscommon. William Bond of Edgeworthstown, County Longford, third son of Reverend Wensley Bond, Dean of Ross, married Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Perry and died in 1811. Their eldest son, James Wensley Bond, resided at Cartroncard, County Longford and their second son, Alexander Perry Bond, at Ardglass, County Westmeath. In 1846 a private act of parliament was passed ‘vesting certain lands and hereditaments of the estates of Alexander Perry Bond situated in County Westmeath in trustees’ for the payment of incumbrances and to ‘limit them to the purposes of the will of William Bond, deceased’. Alexander P. Bond died in 1851, aged 68. Various lands in counties Westmeath and Longford belonging to his son William Perry Bond were for sale in the Landed Estates Court in July 1873. In the mid-1870s William P. Bond owned 2,292 acres in the county (parishes of Rathaspick and Multifarnham) and 77 acres in County Longford. Alexander P Bond’s brother, Willoughby Bond of Farra, County Longford owned 1,057 acres in County Westmeath, 5,977 in County Longford and 1,525 in County Meath. At the time of Griffiths Valuation Richard Bond was among the principal lessors in the parish of Abbeylara, barony of Granard, County Longford. In the 1870s, James Willoughby Bond of Faragh was the owner over 550 acres. John Bond “of Castlecor” owned over 1100 acres. Thomas Bond of Cartroncard owned over 500 acres. Willoughby Bond was among the principal lessors in the parish of Granard and the parishes of Killoe and Columbkille, barony of Longford at the time of Griffiths Valuation.
