Rochfort (Rochfortbridge)
A junior branch of the Rochforts, Earls of Belvedere, descending from George Rochfort, of Rochfort, parish of Moylisker, county Westmeath, a younger brother of the 1st Earl of Belvedere. In 1745, George married Alice Hume of Castle Hume, county Fermanagh. Their son Gustavus Hume Rochfort married Francis Bloomfield in 1779 and is recorded as having sold Rochfort. Gustavus and Francis had a number of sons including Charles of Rochfort Lodge, whose son Captain Charles Gustavus Rochfort of Ballytore, county Kildare, owned 1,434, acres in county Westmeath in the mid-1870s. The estate of this branch of the Rochfort family was located in the parishes of Ardnurcher or Horseleap (Lissavara Little), Castlelost and Kilbride (Fearmore) as recorded in Griffith’s Valuation (publ. 1854).
